Laos Issues Alert as Typhoon Wipha Sparks Flood, Landslide Threats

(MENAFN) The Laos weather bureau has issued a critical alert as Typhoon Wipha—the sixth typhoon of the year—approaches, bringing a heightened threat of flash floods and landslides due to anticipated heavy rain, powerful winds, and thunderstorms nationwide.

As Wipha weakens into a tropical storm near Vietnam between Monday and Tuesday, it will impact northern and central Laos. The Department of Meteorology and Hydrology, part of the Lao Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, reports widespread light to moderate thunderstorms, with intense rainfall and strong winds particularly in central and southern regions.

Residents living in low-lying zones and along riverbanks are urged to stay vigilant and prepare for several days of persistent heavy rainfall, which could provoke landslides, flash floods, and serious damage to lives and property. Authorities emphasize that all residents should regularly follow official weather updates and alerts.
